Two posts back, I asked if anyone knew the reason why my pawns were women. But I guess it wasn't that obvious for those who don't play chess. Fine, I'm the only nerd around here but I still owe my friend an explanation. Anyway, Liberts thought that I'm a feminist and used my pawns to insinuate that the world is run by women. I had to agree with her, what else are we men here for?;) She was so pleased that she commissioned another artwork from me that very same day. Below is a diptych of the two pawns pitted against each other that I specially made for her.
So why are my pawns women? In the game of chess, the underrated pawns can be the most powerful pieces in late game. It can either stab the king with the humiliating pike of checkmate or reach the 8th rank or opposite end of the board where it gets promoted to any piece of the player's choice. And I never settled for anything less, I've always had the powerful queen.:P I hope that satisfies her.
This post is dedicated to Liboria McCormick(that's my lovely mother), to the two most interesting women I met in blogging, to my ate, to Liberts, to Gem, Mimi and DD, to Beyonce and all the independent women of the world!:P
Happy International Women's Day!
PS: D7 accused me of being a leaf-thief. Royal Fork is D7's younger sister.;)

Hi Bjornik! I happened to be on IF right when you posted. I love them! They are stunning and convey such character. I have to admit that I've never seriously played chess - although my little 6 year old is pretty into it. I'm learning! It's always great to see your weekly post! Beautiful job.
ReplyDeleteThey're fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Bjornik that I learn about International Women's Day from a man. Who celebrates that anyway? However, your thought is very much appreciated by the women who visit your blog and I do too, with one correction: Women do not run the world. Real women, good women anyway. If they do, the world will be a better place. Let me cite a few exceptions: Golda Meir, Cory Aquino, Margaret Thatcher and Indira Gandhi. The current female leaders are too partisan and are only interested in and for their own personal advancement and gains. If they are good, they are soon corrupted by the crooks and the system that they hoped to correct or improve. As always, I would rather salute the good women, sisters and mothers who toil daily and do their best to raise good and kind citizens.
ReplyDeleteBjornik, I read this post early this morning, just before the dog begged to be walked. I'm sure as I was strolling about the park, people were wondering who that crazy gaijin was with the silly grin on her face.
ReplyDeleteI am duly satisfied with your eloquent explanation. And you most definitely are not a nerd! Quite the contrary. I'm very impressed with your intelligence and skill.
You do know, don't you, that Royal Fork is but a mere 22? And you may keep the leaves. They look much better with your bishop.
Hugs to you,
Dee Seven
ps. Dear Mimi, I hope things are improving.
Fantastic pen work!
ReplyDeleteWow ! this is gorgeous, no words
ReplyDelete.. And I love how you mix hands in your drawings
Magandang umaga Bjornik! Gumising ka na!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone and to the lovely women, may your day gets as lovelier as you.
ReplyDeleteI'm awake, I'm awake! Damn my computer clock, it has advanced by an hour. Imagine that I had to stop drawing because my forearms hurt and I thought it was already 5am. No wonder it was still dark then.haha Ces, I stand corrected. That's very true and please don't forget to mention Dr. Sinclair, Nurse Dishes and Ms. Beyonce Knowles.:P
And Bella, then that was like were walking Oz together! If my computer could only talk then it had probably said to wipe the smile off my face this very instant.hahaha Ok, I'll shut up now.:P
a diptych presentation surely lends an extra, albeit subtle, air of divinity to your lady pawns.
ReplyDeletegenius.
I challenge you to a game of chess. If you win, I'll pay for dinner. If I win, I'll pay for dinner. :D

I have just gotten to know Ces and she is so incredible. I just love her. Do you know her good friend Bella? I have known Bella for some time and if you don't know her you should go see her as she is amazing. Her art always lifts my spirit and she is a genuine lovely person. I adore her. You should check her out too.
xoxoxo
Thank you Renee, I truly appreciate it. You mean Dr. Sinclair?:P I have known Bella and Ces for almost 2 months now and I am so fond of these lovely ladies that I look forward to reading their new entries and friendly banters.:)
ReplyDeleteI had a little laugh when you mention your mother thinks you are gay because I know another architect whose mother also thought she was gay – this can’t be just happening to architects could it? Maybe it is just wishful thinking on their part.
ReplyDeleteMy sister has told me that I am what is considered a “lurker” in the blog world, but I had to comment on your blog as your art is so beautiful - I love all the detail, especially the little tea pot!
Hi Shelly! What sharp eyes you have. Thank you very much for making your presence felt and I'm flattered that my works pulled you out from being a lurker. Please make your self comfortable, how about some tea?:D
ReplyDeletethey are absolutely wonderful and the detail is incredible
