The Barts

The Barts

It's time to a take break from the more "serious" stuff. This is my latest caricature, a portrait of my "lawyer" with my goddaughter and her loving husband. Our friendship goes way back in college and I've known this lady to be very tough. I don't know why she ended up as a lawyer when our university's physics department was known for producing top-notch "physicians".hehe

Whatever her reasons were, I am very happy that she has finally chosen a field where she can sink her fangs into. Deep. But to be honest, I'm happier that I get legal advice and notarization for free!hahaha

Anyway, my friend here used to envy my three names and the crazy couple that they were came up with a crazier name for my goddaughter. Yazou Nizhoni Zuleika! Damn, I don't know if I even spelled it right! What were you guys into when you named this poor little girl?hahaha I am worried about the day she learns how to write; she will always be the last pupil to finish their writing exercises. I hope she doesn't drop out of school and rebel because of her name.:P What the hell am I saying? I'm sure this baby will turn out to be one of the brightest kids this world has to offer. Just look at that smirk, LOVELY!

Happy Valentimes Day

Happy Valentimes
This is Ces, my girl best friend since college, and her new boyfriend. She asked me to do a quick 3-hour commission, which took 6 days for me to finish 'coz I had lazily jumbled three tasks during the past week not to mention the trips to watch the hot-air balloon festival and the Mt. Pinatubo trek with friends.

This is the 3rd caricature that Ces has commissioned me. The first one was with her first boyfriend, my roommate who also happens to be one of my best friends. And the bastard doesn't want to give the caricature back because he thinks he's going to make a fortune out of it someday. I don't want to talk about the second drawing. As far as I know it got burned along with love letters by the dying flames of her second boyfriend's passion. I sincerely wish this will be the last time I'm going to draw for my best friend 'coz I'm starting to believe that my caricatures have jinxed her in love.hahaha

To my dear friends and to you, who unfortunately stumbled upon this blog, may you find the right person in life this special season of love. Happy Valentimes day everyone!

Banzai!

My tita is coming home in time for Kadayawan. Sayaka, her Japanese stepdaughter will be going too and will probably be staying here for 3months. I haven't had the chance to know her well during my stay in Japan. But despite the language barrier and cultural differences we managed to understand each other by body language. For Filipinos, expressing hunger would be opening your mouth, putting your fingers in one hand together and pushing it before your lips. Once, I received a bewildered look from her and to prevent further embarrassment I quickly gesticulated chopsticks with my middle finger and thumb. Good thing I didn't lick my fingers to convey "sarap to the bones" or her samurai dad would have stabbed me with a chopstick. Well, I just hope she brought a bagful of English for her vacation.

The lady to the left is not Sayaka. And definitely not Takejiro. This is a 30-minute charcoal sketch of another friend I prepared as sample work for a commission.

A Minute Spent, A Life Saved

Last Tuesday, my friend Dra. Grace Anatomy of the Cancer Institute Foundation asked for my help with a fund raising campaign they had for cervical cancer patients. I didn't know what to expect and I was getting a bit nervous the night before. The venue was at Edsa Shangri-la Hotel and I was just about to make caricatures for the GlaxoSmithKline conference. Tough luck, I had not brushed up on my speed and I was to give them atleast 10 caricatures.

A beautiful girl named May was the first one to sit for me. Honestly, I was a bit awestruck by her beauty and I just want to chat with her. My hand was trembling and I was ready to die of shame. Good thing one of the doctors brought a dslr with her and took a photo of May. It took me almost an hour to finish a colored caricature of her and by the way things were going, I could have only drawn about 5 people until the conference's over.

After lunch, people were lining up for the very cheap caricatures and by then I was just dumbly accepting instructions from clients. Not minding if I could finish all of them on time. Good thing Grace's a doctor, she saved my life by helping me out with the other orders. I think she made 7 caricatures and a little over 10 were left for me. It has been an enjoyable activity and I would surely do this again next time. Well maybe after they cure my prostate cancer.:P

Aaronman

aaronman
This is a quick commission I did for my voluptuous friend Yvonne. Her boyfriend Aaron, who's a big fan of Ironman, is celebrating his 26th birthday today. I just hope this caricature made it on time. Happy birthday Aaronman!

And there's nothing more beautiful than seeing a happy client. Maraming salamat dai!
